“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Having Christ at the center of our lives and our families is crucial for walking in the greater things He has for us. Not only does Jesus desire to be the Lord of our lives, He desires to be the Lord of every area of our lives, even our families.
In this passage, Joshua has become angry with the people because they cannot seem to make up their minds who they want to serve as their god. Joshua’s definitive statement is full of conviction as he declares that nothing that anyone else is doing is going to effect his decision to have Christ as the head of his household. When we don’t allow Jesus full reign in our families, our children and our marriages come under attack of the culture of this word. It is time to rise up and take a stand and say no longer will we allow the culture to define our family, but rather Christ defines us.
Lord I take a stand today for my family and I ask you to be the center of our lives and the head of our home. I give you free reign to do as you please in our family. You alone are good. I want greater things for my family and I declare that as for me and my house, we will serve You Lord. Amen
